MONTGOMERY — The Mobile River Bridge and Bayway project announced on Thursday is "terribly needed," according to House Pro-Tem Chris Pringle (R-Mobile).

The project is expected to begin by the end of this year, pending approval of a Federal TIFIA (Transportation Infrastructure Finance and Innovation Act) loan covering 49% of the cost. Plans include a new cable-stayed Mobile River toll bridge, improvements to interchanges, and enhancements that will make the existing Bayway six lanes.

"The bridge is terribly needed. When you come to Mobile Friday afternoon after 1 p.m., I-10 is a parking lot," Pringle told 1819 News on Thursday. "The traffic overwhelms the tunnels and the bridge now. Looking forward to hopefully alleviating the traffic jams. The bridge is needed."

With the ALGO Pass, the toll will now be $3 per trip under the new plan, up from the previously proposed $2.50
