The nation is reacting to comments made by radical-left Bishop Mariann Edgar Budde at the National Prayer Service with President Donald Trump.
Budde called on the president to have mercy on transgender children and illegal immigrants.
“There are gay, lesbian and transgender children in Democratic, Republican and independent families, some who fear for their lives,” Budde said.
Mobile pastor Travis Johnson, of Pathway Church, has been on the campaign trail with Trump. As a member of the National Faith Advisory Board (NFAB) he has witnessed Trump’s spiritual journey firsthand.
That was no different Tuesday at the National Cathedral. Johnson said he was disheartened by the darkness in the room.
“It's really unfortunate that this really beautiful tradition where our country should be blessed and where the President should be blessed, specifically was turned into an opportunity to lecture the President and I won't even really get into all of the doctrinal issues that were there,” Johnson told 1819 News.
“What I will say is what was on full display is why there are many mainline apostate churches that have beautiful structures and empty pews,” he continued. “People will not be saved unless the gospel is preached and what happened in that space yesterday was a really sad thing to see, especially in Christ. It was out of order and our President deserves better. The country deserves better.”
After the prayer service, Johnson and other pastors joined for prayer.
“We gathered after that service in that space and we prayed to the Lord Jesus Christ that He would bless our president and that He would bless our country,” Johnson said. “And I am and have been been praying for all the cross-spirit. That's my prayer and I believe that God is hearing that prayer.”
“I think this has been a really wonderful week and I believe it's going to be a wonderful four years that are on our horizon,” he added.
Trump said Budde owes the public an apology for her “boring and uninspiring” display.
“She was nasty in tone, and not compelling or smart,” Trump posted on Truth Social. “She failed to mention the large number of illegal migrants that came into our Country and killed people. Many were deposited from jails and mental institutions. It is a giant crime wave that is taking place in the USA.”
