In an interview with Fox News Digital, Sylacauga City Councilwoman Laura Barlow Heath expressed her concern about the influx of Haitian migrants into her small town.
Just days after council president Tiffany Nix shut down public comment when citizens sought the council for answers regarding over 50 Haitian migrants getting dumped into the city, Heath said it was not right to shut down citizens seeking answers. She added there was a "fear" of Sylacauga "becoming the next Springfield, Ohio," which has garnered national attention due to a massive influx of Haitian migrants recently.
"There is a fear here of becoming the next Springfield, Ohio. You know, when is enough enough? When do they stop coming in?" Heath said.
"I will never agree that it's OK to shut people down. Whether I agree with what they're saying, whether it's an uncomfortable conversation, they still have to be heard and validated," she added.
The councilwoman warned that if questions about the migrants in Sylacauga go unanswered there would be "civil unrest."
"What I want to know is why Sylacauga?" she asked. "We already have a housing crisis, and we don't have a lot of jobs. And there's just so many uncertainties. And uncertainties lead to conspiracy theories and stuff because there's no leads as to why hardly. And so I have a lot of concern that ... it's going to cause civil unrest if we continue to not have answers to give to the people."
