During a Thursday episode of Huntsville WVNN's "The Dale Jackson Show," U.S. Sen. Tommy Tuberville (R-Auburn) bashed futile attempts to derail his gubernatorial campaign through false narratives and residency challenges.
"Am I stupid enough to give up a U.S. Senate seat, knowing that I'm going to run for governor and I won't be eligible? My God, they live on another planet," Tuberville said. "I don't understand where they come from. Again, it goes back to one thing. They got to complain about everything. What are you going to do to make America better, what are you going to do to make Alabama better?"
"They had no plan, and they just had to come up with something, but there's nothing here," he added.
According to Tuberville, residency-related concerns will likely be in the rearview mirror by next week, after the Alabama Republican Party (ALGOP) hears a final challenge on the issue from former congressional candidate Ken McFeeters. Additionally, the legislator spurned the possibility of a "backroom deal" with the ALGOP to secure a favorable outcome.
"We'll be cleared a week from Sunday," Tuberville asserted. "Somebody said, 'Well, it's going to be a backroom deal.' I didn't talk to anybody about this. I said, 'Here's all my stuff, you make a decision, you do what you want to do.' There's no talk, there's no conversation. The people are going to do the right thing. Whatever they say, we'll do, and we'll go on from there. But all the residency issues should be tied down."
