Much of Central Alabama experienced power outages Monday afternoon into the evening after a severe storm system moved through the state.

Strong winds toppled trees and power lines, leaving more than 18,500 people without power. No injuries were reported, but small structural damage was reported in the Hayleville area.

Alabama Power responded to repair lines with the most outages in Jefferson County, reaching 6,000. Blount, Cullman and Etowah Counties saw over 1,000 reported outages.

The severe weather dissipated by 10 p.m., but lingering showers continued to add to the drenched areas. A flood advisory was issued for Calhoun, Cherokee and Walker Counties.

Another round of severe weather is forecast for the state on Wednesday afternoon and evening.
