On Friday, the Alabama Department of Corrections (ADOC) Law Enforcement Services Division (LESD) arrested three individuals for attempting to smuggle contraband into the Fountain Correctional Facility in Atmore after a police pursuit.
An LESD K-9 officer initiated lights and sirens on a suspicious vehicle before the suspect reentered the car and fled. The officer then pursued the fleeing vehicle south onto Interstate 65 before the suspect’s vehicle left the roadway and crashed at Exit 10.
The individual attempting to introduce contraband was apprehended after a short foot chase and later identified as Justin Duckworth.
Other LESD officers responded to the scene, and the driver of the vehicle, Jajuan Williams, and the rear passenger, Amber Shields, were taken into custody at the scene. All three suspects were transported to the Escambia County Jail.
Duckworth was charged with 1st-degree promoting prison contraband, attempting to commit a controlled substance crime, 1st-degree Possession of Marijuana, possessing a firearm by a restricted person, and 2nd-degree receiving stolen property.
Williams was charged with 1st-degree promoting prison contraband, attempting to commit a controlled substance crime, Attempting to Elude (Felony), 1st-degree criminal mischief, 1st-degree Possession of Marijuana and Prohibited Activities.
