U.S. Sen. Tommy Tuberville (R-Auburn) will reportedly announce next month that he’s not seeking re-election to the Senate and is instead running to be Alabama’s next governor.
Governor Kay Ivey is term-limited from seeking another term in the 2026 election.
According to Yellowhammer News, Tuberville told a group of donors at a private meeting on Wednesday that he’d decided to run for governor.
An official announcement is expected next month.
Tuberville announced in November that he was running for re-election to the Senate. However, speculation has run rampant for months that Tuberville was actually going to run for governor.
He was first elected to the Senate in 2020.
UPDATE: After publication, Tuberville said on X he was still praying about whether to run for Senate or governor.
While I appreciate all the interest, Suzanne and I are still praying about how to best serve the people of Alabama. When I have an official announcement about my future, you'll hear it directly from me.
