GULF SHORES — The Gulf Shores tattoo artist accused of trying to rape a woman in the parking lot of Mud Bugs Pub & Club in August 2022 has been scheduled for trial.

Daniel Anthony Crain, 46, of Pensacola, is charged with two counts of first-degree attempted rape, first-degree sexual abuse and intimidating a witness.

Investigators said officers responded to a fight and sexual assault in progress in the parking lot of Mud Bugs Pub & Club around 2:56 a.m. When they arrived on the scene, the officers located an unconscious female. She was taken to the hospital for treatment, and witnesses told police that Crain, who worked at Patches Tattoo & Piercings in Gulf Shores, was the person responsible.

Attorneys for Crain asked for a delay in the trial because they needed more time to prepare. The state agreed, and the judge set the trial for March 4, 2024.

Crain is considered innocent until proven guilty.
