The trial over an election challenge in Conecuh County is set for January 23.
Mike Blackmon, the Republican candidate for sheriff, filed an election contest after the 2022 election.
The filing came after a recount found Democrat Sheriff Randy Brock won the race. Blackmon has remained sheriff since the election.
An investigator in the case, Curtis Gissendaner, collected evidence claiming the final count for the election was incorrect due to ballot harvesting. However, attorneys will have to focus on which votes should have been counted and which votes should not have been counted.
If it is determined that Blackmon won the race, he will become Conecuh County’s new sheriff.
The trial will begin Thursday at 9:30 a.m. Judge Braxton Kittrell, a retired Mobile County Circuit judge, will preside over the case.
