The trial for a Gulf Shores tattoo artist accused of trying to rape a woman in the parking lot of Mud Bugs Pub & Club on August 28, 2022, has been rescheduled.
Daniel Anthony Crain, 46, who is now living in Pensacola, is charged with two counts of first-degree attempted rape, first-degree sexual abuse and intimidating a witness.
Investigators said officers responded to a fight and sexual assault in progress in the parking lot of Mud Bugs Pub & Club around 2:56 a.m. When they arrived on the scene, the officers located an unconscious female. She was taken to the hospital for treatment, and witnesses told police that Crain, who worked at Patches Tattoo & Piercings next door, was the person responsible.
Crain was initially placed on GPS ankle monitoring, but since he moved to Florida, the judge in the case ruled he would no longer be monitored. However, he is not allowed to have contact with the victim or be within a mile of her home.
Several employees of Patches Tattoo & Piercings left their jobs after they said they felt uncomfortable working with a man who was recently indicted on several charges. They said the owner refused to fire him after the arrest.
Attorneys for Crain asked for a delay in the trial because they needed more time to prepare. The state agreed, and the judge set the trial for May 6.
Crain is considered innocent until proven guilty.
