In a recent interview with "Josh Pate's College Football Show," President Donald Trump revealed what his discussions look like when he's golfing with college football national championship coaches Nick Saban and Urban Meyer.

Trump, a big fan of football and golfing, told host Josh Pate that the legendary Alabama football coach and the former Florida Gators and Ohio State Buckeyes coach were more interested in discussing politics than football.

"They talk to me about politics, really more so than football. They like politics," Trump said of the two. "They're all obviously very highly competitive people, but I would say for the most part, we're talking politics. They want to know what's happening with Iran, what's happening … why did you do that with Venezuela? It was pretty good. You know, that was very, very successful, to put it mildly."

"But they always want to seem to [talk politics], because I play with a lot of athletes, a lot of coaches," Trump continued. "I play golf. I'm a good golfer, and some of them are good. Some of them aren't very good, but doesn't matter. One thing with golf, it doesn't really matter. That's why they have handicaps. But they always want to talk about politics."

Trump has long been a fan of Saban and Alabama football. He has attended three Crimson Tide football games, most recently in 2024, and delivered a commencement speech at the University of Alabama in May of last year. He has urged the legendary coach to get involved in reforming Name, Image and Likeness in college sports.
