U.S. Sen. Tommy Tuberville (R-Auburn) is on board with President Donald Trump's plan to stamp out crime in Washington, D.C., with help from the National Guard, which could soon include troops from Alabama.

Tuberville told Newsmax’s “Finnerty” on Tuesday that it was time to “teach these blue cities some discipline,” the same day Gov. Kay Ivey announced that Alabama’s National Guard is ready to be deployed to D.C., if needed, to help combat crime and maintain law and order.

“This should be the icon of our country. We have millions of tourists come here a year, and it is a trash bin,” Tuberville said. “They don't mow the grass here. It's totally out of control. The streets are littered up. You have homeless everywhere, needles. You have people that get in your face. I've been challenged myself out exercising down the mall. It's a disaster.

“Bring the National Guard in. Teach these people, these Democrats, and these blue cities some discipline. Teach them how to do things they don't want to do anything other than hopefully get people to vote for them to remain in power.”

He continued, “But I know in our state and in Alabama and Texas, some of those states, everybody's saying, where are those National Guard? I tell you where they're at the border. We have sent people to the border in some of the southern states. Now we're having West Virginia come up here, National Guard. We'll do our job because the people up here need help, and we need to give this country back to the American people and take it away from people that are not for law and order.”
