U.S. Sen. Tommy Tuberville (R-Auburn) gave a humorous response on Wednesday when asked about the hypothetical possibility of his former U.S. Sen. Doug Jones being picked as a running mate for the presumptive Democratic nominee Kamala Harris.
After President Joe Biden announced that he would not seek reelection in November, rampant speculation has abounded as to who Harris will pick as her running mate should she receive her party's nomination at the Democratic National Convention in Chicago next month.
AL(dot)com columnist Kyle Whitmire suggested Jones, who was ousted from his seat in 2020 by Tuberville.
On Wednesday, Tuberville responded to Whitmire's speculation, saying he would welcome a Harris/Jones ticket, implying that Jones would essentially be the death knell of the fledgling campaign.
"I agree with Whitmire, maybe [for] the first time ever," Tuberville said, chuckling. "Doug Jones would be my pick for Kamala's running mate, too. You know, he's the only incumbent Democratic senator to lose his seat this decade. He outspent me 10-1; I beat him 20%. So, I don't think he would really help that ticket very much, but I would love for them to take him as vice president because he fits their socialist, communist, globalist future for this country. He is not for the American people. He is for people that come from the Democratic party side that basically believe in a one-world government. So hey, have at it. I would love for Doug Jones to be on that ticket."
