Tuesday on Newsmax’s “John Bachman Now," U.S. Sen. Tommy Tuberville (R-Auburn) reacted to the United States Justice Department (DOJ) releasing a report by former special counsel John Durham about the federal investigation into Russian collusion in the 2016 presidential election.
Tuberville accused the FBI of levying its influence to attack the Donald Trump campaign and suggested those behind the effort deserve jail time.
“The Swamp does not like any outside whatsoever,” Tuberville said. “And it’s a shame people don’t go to jail for this. There’s a whole list of people who lied about this. There are some congresspeople that lied about this."
"If people don’t go to jail for this, the American people should just stand up and say listen, ‘Enough’s enough, let’s don’t have elections anymore.’ ... It is what it is. I hate that it's happened."
The report found that the DOJ and the FBI “failed to uphold their mission of strict fidelity to the law” when it began investigating alleged ties between Trump’s 2016 campaign and Russia.
The report also found that the FBI was more cautious of allegations levied against Hillary Clinton’s campaign than on the Trump campaign and didn’t choose to investigate evidence of potential foreign contributions to Clinton’s campaign.
The FBI responded to the report in a statement, claiming that it had already taken “corrective actions” to address the “missteps” in 2016 and 2017 issued in the report.
