Long-time college football commentator and syndicated sports talker Paul Finebaum would benefit from a "100% name ID" in Alabama if he ultimately decides to run for U.S. Senate in 2026, according to U.S. Sen. Tommy Tuberville (R-Auburn).
Finebaum said on Monday he was considering jumping into the crowded Republican primary field. The Senate seat will be open in 2026, as Tuberville is running for governor instead of seeking re-election.
Tuberville told Bannon's "WarRoom" on Tuesday that Finebaum would benefit from a high name ID in the state.
"I've known Paul a long time. Paul is just a commentator that created division between fans on both sides of whatever teams he wanted to talk about that day on the radio or TV. He had a dialogue. Paul is smart. He loves the country. Again, been a friend of mine for a long time. I have not talked with him about it," Tuberville said. "He's got 100% name ID in Alabama. He'd have a lot of big people behind him. He would be a force in the race if he decided to get into it. I'm for people that come up here that don't want to be in politics. They want to come up and help. I don't support any of them. There's no reason for me to get involved, but Paul is a good guy, a good friend."
