The Lanett Police chief said two officers have been fired following multiple charges against them.
Christopher Looser, 32, of Valley, was indicted on a second-degree assault charge and ethics charges. Chief Denise McCain said Looser is accused of punching a man in the face while he was in the back of Looser's patrol vehicle. The punch knocked out the man's teeth, causing "disfigurement," according to the indictment.
After an investigation, Looser's personal vehicle was repossessed, and according to court documents, Amber Bolt, 33, of Roanoke, pulled over the tow truck with her Lanett Police vehicle.
Bolt is charged with two ethics violations, including giving false statements to the ethics commission.
Looser was also indicted on two ethics charges related to the tow truck incident.
"Law enforcement officers are sworn to uphold and defend the laws of our state," said McCain. "When they abuse their power to violate those very laws, they not only deprive citizens of their individual rights, but they also compromise the public's trust in law enforcement.
"Police officers put themselves at risk for the public every day. The defendants, however, diminished the sacrifices of their fellow officers. Law enforcement officers are rightfully held to a higher standard and, on the very rare occasions when officers refuse to meet that standard, they will be held to account."
Looser and Bolt were placed in the Chambers County Detention Facility. Both are scheduled for arraignment on September 29.
