Though the midterm elections may not have been the “red wave” Republicans were hoping for, the GOP was able to secure a majority in the House of Representatives, and U.S. Rep. Jerry Carl (R-Mobile) said he’s ready to put the pressure on the Democrats regarding Hunter Biden, Dr. Anthony Fauci and committee memberships.
During a recent interview with Newsmax, Carl said investigating Hunter Biden was one of the top concerns he encountered from voters on the campaign trail, which is why the Bidens may be trying to get ahead of any fallout, legal or otherwise, by making Hunter Biden look “normal."
"I think whoever's coaching him is doing a good job," Carl told Newsmax. "They're trying to get him out, trying to get him to look normal, like he's not worried about this investigation. But this investigation has to happen."
Carl said there's a lot more to come from recovered audiotapes of the president's son, but the House Republicans will also need to look at Hunter Biden's 150 or more bank and business records once they take control next January, which will mean issuing subpoenas.
"When we get in control, we get to ask them questions. We get to serve the subpoenas. We get to do the things that will force them to answer some questions," he said. "And it's looking just so dirty … We've got a lot of questions, and we're going to start answering them. I promise you, that will happen."
Along with Hunter Biden, Carl said Republicans plan to hold the retiring Dr. Fauci accountable for his actions throughout the COVID-19 pandemic.
"My father used to say the first ones off a sinking ship are the rats," Carl said. "Well, [Fauci's] one of the first rats to jump ship. He's trying his best to get out of the way, but it won't do any good … We can start bringing him before Congress and asking some hard questions, find out what he knows. I don't expect the truth from him. I've never expected the truth from him, but we can start taking the truth and try to start dissecting it and figure out what the truth is."
It should be easier for the Republicans to guide these investigations since the majority will give them control of committee leaders and appointees.
U.S. Rep. Kevin McCarthy (R-California) — the likely next House speaker — has already said he plans to strip some Democrats from key committees, including Reps. Ilhan Omar (D-Minn.), Adam Schiff (D-Calif.) and Eric Swalwell (D-Calif.).
"[McCarthy will] do a great job," Carl added. "We're excited to get him voted in. But when he was talking about Shift, Swalwell and Omar, they're just damaging to this country; and we've got to get them out of the way and encourage the Democratic Party to put someone new in their place and replace them."
