U.S. Rep. Jerry Carl (R-Mobile) has been appointed to serve on the U.S. House Appropriations Committee.

Chaired by newly appointed U.S. Rep. Kay Granger (R-Texas), the appropriations committee distributes all federal funding throughout government programs.

"I'm honored to be nominated to serve on the House Appropriations Committee for the 118th Congress, where I can best fight for the values and the needs of south Alabama," Carl said. "The Appropriations Committee is responsible for all federal funding, and I take seriously the ability to cut wasteful spending while ensuring our military is properly funded and our tax dollars are spent wisely. This is a huge win for our district and our state, and I'm excited to work with Chairwoman Kay Granger and my colleagues on the Committee to deliver wins for south Alabama and our entire nation."

Carl is one of 10 new GOP members appointed to the Committee since Republicans took the House.

This is Carl's third committee appointment. He currently serves on the House Armed Services Committee and the House Committee on Natural Resources.

"Given the reckless spending we've seen over the past few years, our Committee's work will be at the forefront of the national debate," Granger said. "Fortunately, we have assembled a strong team to fight for fiscal responsibility. Members on our Committee represent all aspects of the conference – politically and geographically. I am confident that our new Members, who bring a wealth of knowledge and expertise with them, will provide valuable insight to the Committee."
