U.S. Rep. Barry Moore (R-Enterprise) unveiled new legislation Tuesday that would designate the AR-15 as the official "National Gun of the United States." Moore announced the pro-Second Amendment legislation from the Family Firearms gun store in Troy.

"The anti-Second Amendment group won't stop until they take away all your firearms," said Moore. "One rule to remember: any government that would take away one right would take away them all.

The second-term congressman explained that the legislation's purpose is to protect Americans' rights and fend off anti-gun "radicals" and President Joe Biden's proposed policies on gun control.

The owner of Family Firearms, Sonnie Parker, said he was thankful to have Moore in his business to fight for Second Amendment rights.

"Second Amendment rights are worth protecting and must not be infringed, and we must send a message that we will meet every attack on any of our constitutional rights," said Parker. "Every day we are battling those in Washington trying to take away our Second Amendment rights."

Biden has repeatedly threatened to ban what he calls "assault weapons," including the semi-automatic AR-15. The "AR" in AR-15 stands for Armalite rifle, named after the company that initially developed the weapon. Biden has also previously said all semi-automatic guns, where one round is fired per trigger pull, should be banned.
