While the ongoing government shutdown threatens national security and could prevent some federal workers at the southern border from getting paid, U.S. Rep. Dale Strong (R-Monrovia) said it also endangers the Democrats' chance of winning the 2026 midterms.

Strong said Thursday on News Nation that the shutdown is hindering law enforcement officers and border patrol agents from properly doing their jobs.

"The ones that I talked to understand that the Democrats want to create chaos, and they're doing it through a government shutdown, and they're sick of it," Strong said.

"That's exactly what the democrats are about. During the Biden administration, they let 15 million illegal aliens into this country, and look what it's created," he said. "They got a government shutdown right now because they want to create, they want health benefits for illegal aliens. They want hundreds of millions for National Public Radio. The people in my district and throughout America are sick of it, and I think that Chuck Schumer and his gang are going to pay the price in midterms this year because people see right through them."

U.S. Sen. Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.) was recently criticized for saying in an interview that things get "better" for Democrats the longer the shutdown lasts, despite the damage it does to everyday Americans.

Strong continued, "It's time for Chuck Schumer to come up with the exit ramp because the American people see right through this. The democrats had the lowest approval rating in history, and I'll tell you this right here, this Democratic Party has left a lot of their people, and I'm telling you right now they're looking at the republican party. You look at the young folks in America. These college campuses are headed toward voting for Republicans in these midterm elections, and I think our country will be better because of it."
