The longer the Democrats keep the U.S. government shutdown, the more everyday Americans are going to suffer, U.S. Sen. Katie Britt (R-Montgomery) said Wednesday on Newsmax’s "American Agenda."

For the sixth time, the Senate failed to pass funding bills on Wednesday that could have ended the shutdown, now into its ninth day. The primary sticking point has been Democrats' insistence on extending Affordable Care Act premium tax credits, according to Newsmax. However, the House has already approved a clean continuing resolution.

"Democrats need to do the right thing and reopen the government. The fact that they have demanded this shutdown in order to have a conversation is completely and totally ridiculous," Britt said. “Who is paying the price? It’s the American people.”

She said military members, federal workers and people relying on some government programs will see pay disruptions if the “Democrat shutdown” doesn’t end soon.

"The people that Democrats have said they care the most about are going to pay the price, because Democrats don't know how to work and have a conversation at the same time," she said.

Britt called out Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.) for playing political games in an attempt to keep his job come next election.

"And we see Chuck Schumer putting the politics of his [reelection] and trying to figure out if he can make it until, what is it, Oct. 18th, the No Kings protest here in Washington, D.C. so that he can stand on the stage with those individuals and rally the left wing of his party and hopefully keep his job," Britt said.
