U.S. Rep. Barry Moore (R-Enterprise) is sponsoring legislation that would ban gender researchers from receiving taxpayer funding if they lead studies facilitating transgender sex changes for minors.
According to The Daily Wire, the legislation introduced by U.S. Rep. Josh Brecheen (R-Oklahoma) follows data that his office obtained from the National Institutes of Health (NIH), indicating that it currently provides more than $30 million in funding this year for studies that involve minors who identify as transgender.
The No Taxpayer Funding for Researchers Who Prey on Children Act focuses on researchers who participate in studies that include or describe a minor "whose perception of his or her sex or asserted identity is incongruent with such individual's sex for the purpose of affirming such perception or asserted identity," according to the outlet.
It also would forbid taxpayer funding of researchers who participate in studies that help minors obtain medical, surgical or social interventions that further this "disassociation from his or her sex."
"Our taxpayer dollars have already been used to fund $31 million in youth transgender studies that have led to the suicide of two participants," Moore told 1819 News on Monday. "Americans should never be footing the bill to put our children in danger, and I'm grateful to my colleague from Oklahoma, Rep. Brecheen, for leading the charge to ensure it never happens again."
