The Alabama Republican Party's (ALGOP) candidate qualifying opened on Monday, and U.S. Reps. Robert Aderholdt (R-Haleyville) and Jerry Carl (R-Mobile) wasted no time registering for the 2024 election.

Given the recent court-imposed congressional map, 2024 will provide no lack of interesting races. GOP candidates have until November 10 to qualify for state and federal offices on the 2024 ballot.

"This is going to be an important election year with a lot at stake on both the national and local level," said ALGOP chairman John Wahl. "The Republican Party is proud to stand for the timeless principles of freedom and limited government that made our nation great, and we look forward to helping all of our candidates as they stand for these conservative values in 2024."

The new congressional map has complicated things in District 1, now represented by Carl.

The map places Coffee County, currently represented by District 2 U.S. Rep. Barry Moore (R-Enterprise), into District 1, potentially pitting Moore against the Carl, should Moore decide to run. Thus far, Moore has not said if he is running for reelection.

"At a time when our borders are being overrun, crime is on the rise in cities across America, and Joe Biden continues leading our country down the wrong path, this country needs more staunch conservatives like me who will deliver results and never back down from the fight," Carl said. "I'm proud of the work my team and I have accomplished already for Alabama. Whether it's our efforts to secure the border, slash wasteful government spending, stop overreach by the Biden admin, and stand firm against any efforts to take away our Constitutional rights."

"We've got a lot of work to be done in Washington, and the stakes are simply too high for us to let our foot off the gas and give up on the fight to save this country," he added.

Aderholt also qualified for reelection. He received 84% of the vote when he won in 2022, making his seat less contentious.

"Our nation is at a crossroads and this next election will determine which path we take," Aderholt said. "If we choose to go down the same path Joe Biden and the Democrats have us on, then this nation will continue to be on a downward spiral. Our debilitating national debt will only rise, the tide of illegals pouring over the southern border will become a tsunami, woke culture will replace real education in our schools, the two-tiered justice system will march on unchecked, and America will continue to look weak and feeble to both our friends and our adversaries alike."

He continued, "Democrats and their allies have tried almost every trick to keep the status quo. Most of them seem unconcerned with open borders, woke culture, and spending money we don't have. Furthermore, they embrace using the judicial system to punish their political enemies like President Trump."
