The University of Alabama College Democrats will rally in support of Alireza Doroudi, a mechanical engineering doctoral student who was detained by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) last week.
Doroudi is currently being held in the Jena/LaSalle Detention Facility in Louisiana after initially being detained in Pickens County Jail, according to ICE.
“ICE HSI made this arrest in accordance with the State Department’s revocation of Doroudi’s student visa. This individual posed significant national security concerns,” a Department of Homeland Security spokesperson said in a statement last week.
The University of Alabama College Democrats said on Facebook, “This Monday we will be taking the fight back to the courts.”
