A Pinson family is facing unimaginable loss after the death of two children, eight years apart.
Erika Cole-Davlin and Jeff Davlin heard the news on Sunday, October 6. Their 25-year-old son, Zachary Cole, was killed in a motorcycle crash. Another vehicle on Pine Mountain Road in Pinson hit Cole head-on.
“I keep thinking about the fear he must’ve had when he saw that truck coming,” Cole-Davlin said in tears. “It isn’t supposed to be this way.”
But this wasn’t the mother’s first time being struck with tragedy. In 2016, Cole-Davlin lost her son Cody “Big Country” Cole in another head-on collision. He was 19.
The death of Big Country rattled the Pinson community, and prayer vigils and support were offered to the family.
Now, friends say the family needs that support again.
“This is her second son that she has lost under tragic circumstances,” said Cole-Davlin’s friend Kelly Lewis, who set up a GoFundMe account. “With this sudden loss, they are in need of help to pay for funeral expenses.”
“There is not much we can do for a friend during an unimaginable loss, but maybe we can relieve the monetary stress during this difficult time,” she said.
Zachary Cole's life will be celebrated at Back 40 in Odenville on October 26 at 6 p.m.
“Zach's spirit, laughter, and warmth will be deeply missed, but his legacy will live on in the hearts of those he touched,” his obituary states.
