Earlier this week, multiple sources told 1819 News that State Sen. Vivian Figures (D-Mobile) would seek the open Mobile mayor seat up for grabs in 2025.

On paper, Figures would be a formidable candidate given her 2022 general election results against Republican Pete Riehm. She would also have very little to risk, given she would not have to give up her State Senate seat, which she has held since January 1997.

Figures did not respond to a request for comment for the initial report. However, on Friday, she told Mobile-based Lagniappe she had not made a final decision, adding that she was still focused on the November 5 general election.

Figures' son, Shomari Figures, is vying for a congressional seat in the newly redrawn second district against Republican Caroleene Dobson.
