The city of Mobile has narrowed down names for its first fully electric garbage truck.
Mayor Sandy Stimpson said more than 850 suggestions were submitted. The city is now asking for votes on the top six choices:
Mardi Grime
Gary the Garbage Truck
Watts That Smell
Sparky
Lightning McClean
Optimus Grime
The Mack LR Electric was purchased in May with $300,000 in ADECA (Alabama Department of Economic and Community Affairs) grant funding. That funding came from a lawsuit settlement against Volkswagen.
Mobile was the first city in the state to add a fully electric vehicle to its garbage fleet.
"This new truck is part of our continued efforts to become a more resilient city," said Stimpson.
Voting ends on November 13. To vote, click here.
