Attorney Derek Chen has qualified to run for state auditor. He entered the race in April 2025 and has racked up an impressive list of endorsements, including ProgressPAC, the political arm of the Business Council of Alabama (BCA), the Electric Cooperatives of Alabama Political Action Committee and the Alabama Forestry Association.
"Today, I officially qualified for State Auditor. Over the last nine months, I've had the privilege of visiting all 67 counties, and one thing is clear: Alabama is an amazing place filled with amazing people, and I am so proud to call this state my home," Chen said in a statement.

"Our message is resonating because Alabamians want a government that works for them and is accountable to them. As Auditor, I will put taxpayers first on day one. We are going to bring transparency, accountability, and efficiency to Montgomery," he continued.
The race was expected to be for an open seat; however, just two days ago, incumbent Andrew Sorrell unexpectedly dropped out of the Secretary of State race and announced he would seek reelection.
The news isn't slowing Chen down.
