In what's being described as a "historic" move, President Donald Trump signed an executive order on Tuesday to expand access to in-vitro fertilization (IVF).
Trump directed his domestic policy team to recommend policies within 90 days that would address the accessibility and affordability of IVF.
"My Administration recognizes the importance of family formation, and as a Nation, our public policy must make it easier for loving and longing mothers and fathers to have children," the order stated.
Having led the charge to protect IVF nationwide after an Alabama Supreme Court ruling called IVF into question, U.S. Sen. Katie Britt (R-Montgomery) was credited with being a "driving force" behind Trump's order. She was quick to praise the president for keeping his promise on IVF.
"IVF is fundamentally pro-family, helping aspiring parents across our nation start and grow their families. I couldn't be happier to see President Trump take this landmark step to expand access to this pathway to parenthood," Britt said in a statement. "I remain grateful for President Trump's bold leadership on this issue. IVF will be more affordable and accessible for loving American families thanks to President Trump."
Britt told CNN's Jake Tapper on Tuesday that Republicans are the party of family and life and that Trump's order will allow more people to achieve "the greatest gift" of being a parent.
Proud to stand with @POTUS to champion IVF accessibility and affordability.

We're working to help more loving moms and dads experience what I believe is the greatest gift of all—the blessing of parenthood. This is about supporting and growing American families. pic.twitter.com/TXP8siNEHo
Britt continued in her statement, "President Trump is, once again, keeping his promises to the American people. I look forward to introducing legislation in the Senate advancing the Trump Administration's pro-family agenda for the millions of Americans facing infertility who dream of building a family. Republicans will continue to fight for hardworking families and deliver real results."
