On Tuesday, U.S. House Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) announced plans to direct a House committee to open an impeachment inquiry into President Joe Biden over his involvement in his family's business dealings.
The announcement came after a House Oversight Committee investigation, which McCarthy claimed found a "culture of corruption" surrounding the Biden family's business dealings while Biden was Vice President under President Barack Obama.
The Oversight Committee found, among other things, that Biden participated in phone calls with Hunter Biden's business partners and that $20 million in payments were made through several shell companies to the Biden family and associates. An FBI informant also testified during the proceedings that the Biden family accepted illegal bribes as part of business dealings.
Several members of Alabama's congressional delegation came out Tuesday to fully support the inquiry.
"When House Republicans took control this year, one of the promises we made was to hold President Biden and his Administration accountable," said U.S. Rep. Robert Aderholt (R-Haleyville). "I look forward to reviewing the facts and I know my colleagues on these committees will do a thorough job."
U.S. Rep Jerry Carl (R-Mobile) said he supported the inquiry, claiming the President had used his political positions for the financial gain of himself and his family.
"President Biden has repeatedly used public office to enrich himself and his family," Carl said. "We need answers and accountability for his wrongdoings, and I fully support Speaker McCarthy's decision to move forward with an impeachment inquiry for President Biden."
He continued, "The American people deserve elected officials who work for them and do not abuse their power. House Republicans are committed to rooting out the truth and upholding our Constitutional duty."
U.S. Rep. Dale Strong (R-Huntsville) also supports the inquiry, saying he additionally supported impeachment investigation into other officials, such as Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas.
"The House's investigations uncovered serious allegations of President Biden and his family using the Washington swamp to get rich," Strong said. "I support the Impeachment Inquiry into President Biden because it will give the House access to records that the Biden Department of Justice is trying to keep sealed."
He added, "We must bring accountability and justice to the Washington swamp. That starts at the top by investigating the Biden Family's foreign influence peddling. I also support impeachment investigations into other Biden officials like Secretary Mayorkas— who I believe is actively undermining our nation's border security. If the DOJ won't investigate these wrongdoings, House Republicans will. It's time to hold Joe Biden, his family, and his hand-picked defenders accountable for these abuses of power."
U.S. Rep. Barry Moore (R-Enterprise) took to social media to express his support for the impeachment inquiry.
I support Speaker McCarthy’s decision to start an impeachment inquiry against President Biden. The House Judiciary, Oversight and Ways and Means committees have already uncovered significant evidence that Biden may be compromised by millions of dollars in foreign bribes and other…
