While attending the Republican National Convention in Milwaukee, Wis., this week, the Republican candidate for Alabama’s second congressional seat, Caroleene Dobson, picked up the endorsement of U.S. House Majority Leader Steve Scalise (R-La.).
Dobson is slated to go head-to-head with Democratic nominee Shomari Figures in November to vie for the seat in Alabama’s newly drawn congressional district.

“We need Caroleene in the majority in Congress,” Scalise said. “We need some strong reinforcements, and this is the ticket right here. You need to vote for her on November 5.”
Dobson has made headway in her recent campaign efforts, out-fundraising her opponent by more than $50,000 in the second quarter of 2024.
The race is hotly contested, and the final vote is expected to be very close. The Democratic Party is striving to gain another seat in Congress, assisted by a federal court-mandated redrawing of the state’s congressional map.
Republicans are looking to fill the seat with the political newcomer after AL-2’s current U.S. Rep. Barry Moore (R-Enterprise) chose to take on AL-1 incumbent U.S. Rep. Jerry Carl (R-Mobile) after the redrawing. Moore ousted Carl in the March primary, virtually ensuring his spot in Congress as he is expected to defeat his Democratic opponent handily.
