Secretary of State Wes Allen recently reminded Alabamians that Monday is the final day to register to vote in the upcoming Republican special primary election on August 11, in which voters will decide the GOP nominee for a handful of recently approved congressional districts.
The special primary was given the green light after a special legislative session earlier this year, allowing the governor to call it should the federal courts allow the state to use previously barred maps.
Republicans overwhelmingly supported using the new congressional maps, since it could potentially result in a 6-1 Republican map instead of the previous 5-2 map from the 2024 election.
Allen’s office has been frequently encouraging voters to register for the election in recent weeks, joining other Republican politicos who have expressed concern about Democratic voters filling out Republican ballots.
