Decatur's Wheeler National Wildlife Refuge (WNWR) has added two new boardwalks to the Flint Creek Nature Trail.

WHNT reported the boardwalks were part of a refuge improvement project and were rebuilt last winter. The improvement project also includes the visitor center and observation building.

The WNWR is home to various plants and animals, including several different bird species, which can be seen from the trail.

Hikers can park at the trailhead on Highway 67 near the Flint Creek day use area.

Though the trail is now open, the visitor center will be closed to the public until October 31, along with Visitor Center Road, the observation building and Atkeson Cypress Boardwalk.
