Monday on FBN's "The Evening Edit," U.S. Sen. Tommy Tuberville (R-Auburn) derided the so-called border bill deal brokered between Senate Democrats and U.S. Sen. James Lankford (R-Okla.).
The bill is highly unpopular with most Republicans and is believed to be "dead on arrival" in the U.S. House.
Alabama's senior U.S. Senator told FBN host Liz MacDonald the deal was a "trick" to get more funding for Ukraine.
"Every state's a border state," he said. "We're finding that out now. You know, the moped problem they're having in New York — same thing is going on here in D.C. All the big cities are going to have the same problems. These kid,s most of them are kids — they have a lot of time on their hands, and there's going to be a lot of problems. They have no jobs. They have nothing to do other than go out and cause problems. And they're not held accountable."
"But we are having a meeting in about an hour, our entire caucus," Tuberville continued. "We're talking about this border bill, which is worse than what I thought. They've kept it secret for months, Liz. They've not told us hardly anything. They've just given us a few tidbits about it as we've gone along. But if you give lawyers, a group of lawyers, four months to come up with something, usually that's not any good."
"Up here, they care about two things: polls and power," he added. "It started polling real bad for the Democrats before Christmas, and all of a sudden, they decided they want to make some kind of border deal. But this is not a deal. This is a trick they're trying to play on us to get $118 billion of American taxpayer money to go overseas."
