ORANGE BEACH — Attorney General Steve Marshall addressed the Alabama Association of Boards of Registrars Friday in what he called their “Super Bowl” season as they approach a presidential election.

“We also recognize that there is more than one race on our ballots, and the work that you do assures Alabamians that we're going to have a fair and an accurate election,” Marshall said.

Marshall told the crowd that when he became the AG, he didn’t realize the amount of work that would surround election law and election integrity. He said he has done a significant amount of work defending Alabama’s laws.

“The good thing I can tell you is we haven't just been focused on that over the last six or eight months but instead, that's been a part of our mission since I've been AG,” said Marshall. “One of the things that I'm proud of is that we successfully defended Alabama's voter ID.”

Now, the AG’s office is working with other AGs from around the nation to codify in federal law that only U.S. citizens are allowed to vote.

“We will continue to be active in supporting Alabama's laws, because this is the most fundamental proposition that we face, is allowing for government to be responsive to voters,” he said. “But yet, if that election is inaccurate, if it doesn't reflect the true votes of the people, it will be irresponsible to the people that put them there. And y'all, that work begins with you.”

“You are the ultimate gatekeepers in our election process and without your work, we would not be able to conduct fair elections,” he continued. “Fair elections with a peaceful transfer of power would never be able to take place without your work and without your work, the voice of millions of Alabamians would go unheard.”

State Auditor Andrew Sorrell also spoke at the event and touched on his experience as a gun shop owner being “debanked.”
