
The Alabama chapter of the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) recently celebrated the passage of three bills related to the state’s Board of Pardons and Paroles in the recently concluded legislative session, two of which had Republican sponsors.

The Alabama Board of Pardons and Paroles adopted new amended parole guidelines at a meeting on Thursday.

The Alabama Board of Pardons and Paroles has been without its third member since mid-December, creating the need for unanimous consent to grant paroles.

“I am pleased that the Board has denied Jimmy Spencer parole for the crimes for which he is currently serving two life sentences,” said AG Marshall after the Alabama Pardons and Paroles Board denied parole to career criminal Jimmy O'Neil Spencer. Spencer is accused of killing three people in Guntersville during his last parole.
