Southern Baptist Convention annual meeting ends with notable achievements

The Southern Baptist Convention wrapped up its 2023 annual meeting in New Orleans this week, having handled several of the issues that had been hampering the organization for the past couple of years. 

Texas pastor Bart Barber elected Southern Baptist president

Bart Barber, elected Tuesday as the new president of the Southern Baptist Convention, says he has a track record of dialogue with those who disagree on those and other issues. He has called for an “army of peacemakers” amid bitter political battles in the nation's largest Protestant denomination. Barber succeeds Alabama pastor Ed Litton, who has served as senior pastor of Redemption Church in Saraland, who completed his term after being elected in 2021.
