
State Sen. Greg Albritton (R-Range) says to expect changes in the delivery method for the Escambia County men's mega-prison after the price for its sister facility, named for Gov. Kay Ivey and nearing completion in Elmore County, doubled from $623 million to $1.25 billion.

The new $1 billion Elmore County prison will be named after Gov. Kay Ivey.

Alabama Department of Corrections commissioner John Hamm told lawmakers on Tuesday that the hotly debated $1.25 billion Elmore Prison construction is not scheduled to be completed for another two years, while the planned Escambia County prison is on hold until funding can be secured.

A worker died at the site of the new prison under construction in Elmore County on Tuesday.

During Friday's broadcast of Alabama Public Television's "Capitol Journal," Alabama Department of Corrections (ADOC) commissioner John Hamm offered an expected update on the long-anticipated Elmore County mega-prison.
