
The Montgomery Police Department hasn’t signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) to join the Metro Area Crime Suppression Unit.

The State of Alabama has spent $2.5 million since June 2024 on the Metro Area Crime Suppression Unit in an attempt to crack down on crime in Montgomery, according to the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency.

Montgomery Mayor Steven Reed told members of the media and the public during a Monday afternoon press conference that violent crime had decreased by 28% in the city since last year.

The Metro Area Crime Suppression Unit is boasting of increased efficacy in cracking down on crime in the Montgomery area, including nearly 700 arrest warrants for an array of crimes and seizing dozens of stolen cars, illegal guns and machine gun conversion devices.

A Montgomery police officer working with the Metro Area Crime Suppression (MACS) Unit was injured in a traffic stop on Saturday night.
