Gulf Shores Mayor Robert Craft said there is no question that a new bridge over the Intracoastal Waterway is helping get drivers into Gulf Shores. However, he is disappointed in a last-minute change that is making it more difficult to get off the island.

The City of Orange Beach gets 30 cents per car that travels across the Intercoastal Waterway via the Beach Express toll bridge. The fact that the city gets money from the toll has been a talking point for those supporting a new taxpayer-paid bridge nearby.

1819 News called and emailed Craft, asking several questions about his position on the decision and about what will happen next. However, he is unable to answer those questions after he said he was advised to wait until a decision is made by the Supreme Court.
