After passing the House of Representatives on Tuesday, legislation increasing the amount of money the State of Alabama can borrow to pay for new prison construction is headed to Gov. Kay Ivey’s desk for a signature.

During an appearance on Mobile radio FM Talk 106.5's "The Jeff Poor Show," State Sen. Chris Elliott (R-Josephine) said the legislature should reconsider the construction management delivery method used for the Elmore County facility given the rampant cost escalation it allowed for over the past three years.

As the price tag for Alabama’s new prisons rapidly approaches $1 billion each, these costly prisons should make us consider how we make decisions about using corrections facilities.
