With six open mayoral seats and six incumbents defeated, major changes are expected in Jefferson County this week when most of the new mayors are sworn in on Monday.

The mayors of Brighton and Leeds will be sworn in on Tuesday. The races in the cities of Argo, Fairfield, Homewood, Leeds, Mountain Brook, and Trussville were open; mayors in Adamsville, Brighton, Clay, Fultondale, Hoover and Tarrant were defeated.

In alphabetical order, here are the details of each city (the date for all but the two noted is November 3:

Adamsville: City Councilman Nathaniel Byrd will be sworn in after defeating incumbent Mayor Pam Palmer. According to the City Clerk the swearing in will be 6:00 p.m. at City Hall, 4828 Main St, in the council chambers.

Argo: Randy Hettich won the Argo mayor’s race with 448 votes over former mayor Paul Jennings, who received 227 votes. Incumbent Betty Bradley did not seek reelection. She was first elected in 2016.

According to the City’s website, “The newly elected Mayor and City Council of the City of Argo will meet in an organizational session on at 11:00 a.m. at Argo City Hall, 100 Blackjack Road, Trussville, AL 35173.”

Brighton: Joseph Edwards, Sr. unseated incumbent Eddie Cooper, winning nearly 63% of the vote. He will be sworn in on November 3, 6-8 pm at the Brighton Community Center, 3810 7th Avenue according to the city's Facebook page.

Calara: City Councilman Kenny Dale Cost will be sworn in at the 6:30 p.m. city council meeting. Cost defeated incumbent Jon Graham in a runoff election. Cost won with 1,015 votes, or 82.32 percent while Graham received 218 votes, or 17.68percent, according to the Shelby County Reporter.

Clay: Jane Anderton defeated the incumbent Mayor Charles Webster. She will be sworn in at 6 p.m., according to her Facebook page.

Fairfield: City Council President Herman Carnes Jr. will be sworn in at 4:00 p.m. at City Hall according to the City's website.

Fultondale: Former Mayor Jim Lowery, is returning after defeating Mayor Larry Holcomb with 932 votes to Holcomb’s 380 votes. Lowery will be sworn in at 1:00 p.m at the Fultondale City Hall 1210 Old Walker Chapel Road, according to the city's Facebook page.

Homewood: City councilwoman Jennifer Andress will be sworn in at 6:00 p.m. at City Hall, 2850 19th Street South, in the 2nd Floor Council Chambers. Andress defeated Robin Litaker. Details can be found on the city’s website.

Hoover: Nick Derzis will be sworn in at 6:00 p.m. at the Hoover High School Performing Arts Center, 1000 Buccaneer Drive. Derzis defeated incumbent Frank Brocato. An invitation was posted to the city’s Facebook page.

Leeds: Eddie Moore will be sworn in on Tuesday, November 4, at the City Hall Annex, 1412 9th Street.

Mountain Brook: Graham Smith was elected without opposition. She will be sworn in alongside the city council at 8:00 A.M. at the Mountain Brook City Hall, 56 Church Street. Details can be found on the city’s website.

Trussville: According to the Trussville Tribune, the ceremony for newly elected leaders will be held at 6 p.m. at the Trussville Civic Center.

The program will include opening remarks followed by the invocation, the Pledge of Allegiance, and the administration of the oath of office to the mayor and city council. Judge Carl Chamblee will conduct the installation of Mayor Ben Short and Councilors Jaime Melton Anderson, Kimberly Farr, Ben Horton, Brian Jackson, and Jim Miller.

Tarrant: Tarrant Councilwoman Tracie Threadford beat the one-term incumbent Mayor Wayman Newton, winning the runoff for mayor.

Threadford got 441 votes (64% percent) to Newton’s 250 votes (36% percent). She will be sworn in at Tarrant High School, 91 Old Black Creek Road, at 6:00 p.m., according to a Facebook post she made.
