Last week, the Alabama Education Association (AEA) reported its February contributions, bringing its year-to-date total to $775,000. Of the contributions given by Alabama Voice of Teachers for Education (AVOTE), the AEA political action committee contributed over half to Republicans, $420,000 in total.

The AVOTE contributions were given in $10,000 or $15,000 increments.

Of those who have received contributions this year, they have accepted over $1.5 million throughout their careers.

The Alabama Republican Party (ALGOP) bylaws include a rule stating that the party cannot accept contributions from the AEA, directly or indirectly.

"Officeholders and candidates are strongly admonished to follow the same rule and, because the NEA is a veritable adjunct of the Democratic Party, failure to heed this admonition shall be regarded negatively by the State Committee," party bylaws state.
