Attorney General Steve Marshall recently announced the conviction of a Chinese national on charges of possessing child pornography.

Yuchen Wu, 34, of Troy, a Chinese national, pleaded guilty in Pike County Circuit Court to one count of possession of obscene matter depicting a person under the age of 17.

“Child pornography is a scourge on our society and must be pursued and punished relentlessly,” Marshall said. “Children who are victims of this depravity spend a lifetime trying to heal. The very least the justice system can do is to guarantee that these crimes follow the offender for his lifetime as well.”

Wu was sentenced to 10 years, which was split for him to serve one year in prison, followed by a term of two years of supervised probation. Upon his release, Wu will be required to register as a sex offender and abide by all requirements of Alabama’s Sex Offender Registration and Notification Act.
