After a gunman opened fire at multiple locations in Lewiston, Maine, killing at least 18 and wounding at least another dozen, Democrat lawmakers and progressive politicos have wasted no time using the shooting to call for additional gun legislation.
The gunman, still at large and being sought by law enforcement, first entered a bowling alley, then traveled four miles to a bar, opening fire on the occupants on Wednesday night. The suspect has not been seen since the shooting, and residents are still being asked to shelter in place.
According to the Associated Press, the alleged suspect, Army reservist Robert Card, reportedly underwent a mental health evaluation in mid-July after acting erratically during military training.
In response to the shooting, the Alabama Democratic Party released a statement calling for “sensible” gun control.
“Last night, another mass shooting claimed the lives of innocent Americans,” The statement read. “Thoughts and prayers are not sufficient. It’s time for action. It’s time for Americans on both sides of the aisle to come together for sensible gun legislation and reform of our mental health system. Until then, Americans will continue to be needlessly slaughtered living their daily lives at the bowling alley or having dinner at a restaurant.”
“The Alabama Democratic Party offers our sincerest condolences to the family and loved ones of those that lost their lives.”
