The Alabama Department of Corrections (ADOC) recently made another contraband arrest at the Fountain Correctional Facility in Atmore in the most recent of a slew in ADOC's attempts to crack down on contraband flooding into Alabama prisons.
On Friday, two suspects were arrested and charged with possession of marijuana and attempting to promote prison contraband after an ADOC K-9 unit investigated a suspicious vehicle at Fountain Correctional. Jovaughn Tyreek Matzner and Nicholas Williams were arrested and booked into the Escambia County Detention Center.
The recent contraband arrests come as a result of concerted efforts by ADOC to crack down on drugs, phones, weapons and other contraband from being smuggled into Alabama prisons, both from citizens and staff.

As of Wednesday, the ADOC Law Enforcement Services Division reported 133 contraband-related arrests statewide, including 95 civilian arrests and 38 staff arrests.
ADOC also worked with lawmakers to pass legislation during the 2024 legislative session that makes it illegal for individuals to operate drones and other unmanned aircraft systems within designated areas above ADOC facilities.
