The Alabama Law Enforcement Agency (ALEA) announced Tuesday it had concluded its investigation into the officer-involved shooting that led to the death of Stephen Perkins in Decatur.

ALEA confirmed it had turned over its findings to the Morgan County District Attorney's Office. The Morgan County DA will now have the opportunity to go through the investigation details from ALEA and determine if charges will be brought against the Officers involved.

The Perkins family recently filed a federal lawsuit in the Northern District of Alabama against the Decatur Police Department, the four Officers, the towing company and the credit union. Their attorney, Lee Merritt, acknowledged that the lawsuit will play second fiddle to any possible legal proceedings. However, Merritt said he feels confident that legal proceedings against the individuals are forthcoming.
