The Alabama Republican Party (ALGOP) recently announced its list of legislative priorities as Alabama's lawmakers gather in Montgomery to begin the 2025 legislative session this week.
The party's priorities include cutting taxes for Alabama families, defending parental rights and pushing back against "woke policies that threaten the American Dream."
"The Alabama Republican Party firmly believes that government's first priority should be serving the people it represents," said ALGOP chairman John Wahl. "We are committed to supporting policies that help those in need, safeguard American values, and defend the fundamental rights of each and every single individual. As we look ahead to this legislative session, our goal is to build on the foundation laid by the State Legislature in recent years—work that has protected children from radical woke policies, provided financial relief to struggling families by cutting the grocery tax, and defended constitutional freedoms. The Alabama Republican Party will not back down and we will not surrender as we fight for good government."
The party's first priority is expanding economic opportunity by:
· Eliminating Alabama's business personal property tax
· Setting free-market policy standards for cryptocurrency
· Beginning the reduction of the state income tax
Next, ALGOP will prioritize "protecting children and preserving parental rights," starting with "banning transgender indoctrination in public schools." The legislative goals also include:
· Ensuring girls have access to private spaces, including bathrooms and locker rooms
· Giving parents full control over opting their children in or out of sex education
· Preventing teachers from being forced to use gender pronouns
Citing the influx of illegal drugs and human trafficking, the party is turning its attention to cracking down on illegal immigration, which has become a massive cause for Republican leaders nationwide after the election of President Donald Trump. ALGOP stated it will pursue the following policies to crack down on illegal immigration."
· Identifying and deporting criminal illegal immigrants
· Cracking down on human trafficking
· Allocating guaranteed funding for District Attorney offices
"The Republican Party wants to see Alabama leading the nation in common sense policies that defend the people and their fundamental rights," Wahl continued. "It's time to put people first again. That's our goal this legislative session."
ALGOP will also prioritize election integrity in the upcoming session, stating the party is "committed to strengthening election security and protecting every legal vote." For election integrity, the party will prioritize:
· Establishing a hand count post-election audit
· Reforming the absentee voting process
· Implementing party registration for primary elections
Alabama has attempted to tackle Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) policies in the state, having previously passed a ban on DEI in all state-funded entities. Now, with the Trump administration taking an ostensibly anti-DEI stance, ALGOP is following suit by "opposing radical leftist policies."
The party's priorities include:
· Defining womanhood under state law and protecting women's right to private spaces
· Preventing Alabama businesses and citizens from being "debanked" due to religious or political beliefs
· Banning taxpayer funds from being allocated to DEI programs
· Recognizing gold and silver as legal currency
