ABC Merit PAC, the Associated Builders and Contractors of Alabama’s political action committee, announced on Wednesday that it has endorsed Katie Britt for U.S. Senate.
Deepa Bhate is the Chairman of ABC of Alabama and the CEO and founder of Birmingham-based Building & Earth Sciences, Inc.
"We are excited to support Katie Britt's campaign to serve as the next U.S. Senator for Alabama," said Bhate. “Katie will protect our country's free enterprise system and champion growing enhanced opportunity and good-paying jobs for all hardworking Alabamians, regardless of their zip code."
Bhate said ABC of Alabama believes Britt will focus on important issues facing the state, including education and training, mental health and the opioid epidemic and industry challenges, including job creation.
"We are confident she will make Alabama proud, and we look forward to working with her to build our state's strong future," Bhate said.
“I am proud to have the endorsement of the Associated Builders and Contractors’ Alabama chapter,” said Britt. “Our state’s construction industry showcases the hard work, skill and innovation that defines Alabama. I will always fight to build an environment that rewards these traits and allows Alabama families to thrive in safe, strong communities. The American Dream is one of opportunity for all, not entitlement for any. Together, we will preserve this dream and save the country we know and love for our children and our children’s children.”
Alabama's commercial construction industry is a $12 billion annual business and employs about 156,000 full-time workers with a payroll of more than $6 billion per year.
The Associated Builders and Contractors, Inc. (ABC) was formed in 1951. It describes itself as the national voice of the merit shop in the construction industry.
Britt has also been endorsed by the Home Builders Association of Alabama, the Alabama Farmers Federation’s FarmPAC, the Alabama Retail Association, Manufacture Alabama, the Automobile Dealers Association of Alabama and the Alabama Forestry Association.
Britt is an attorney and the past President and CEO of the powerful Business Council of Alabama.
According to recent polling by 1819 News, Britt would be in second place in the race for the Republican nomination for U.S. Senate and would be in a primary runoff with businessman Mike Durant if the election were held today.
The Republican primary is on May 24.
