Auburn University reported a potential hate crime on Sunday afternoon, which reports claim resulted in damaged office property. Reports also claimed “racial and gender-based slurs” were written on a whiteboard.

According to the university’s Crime Log, the incident occurred at approximately 3:15 p.m. on Saturday. The alleged victim reported the incident the following day. 

University officials indicated on the Crime Log that the incident “may become a hate crime pending additional information.” Its disposition status is listed as “inactive.”

Per the student-run newspaper, the Auburn Plainsman, the university emailed students about the incident that evening. The email indicated that the property had been damaged and slurs had been written on the whiteboard. 

It also indicated that the incident occurred in an office in Auburn’s Haley Center, a large office and classroom building directly next to the Student Center and across the street from Jordan-Hare Stadium. 

As of Sunday night, no suspect has been identified.
